BLOG -- Recap of January

January wasn't too bad work-wise, but it was quite dreary in the end, especially with the virus outbreak that's been going on (and is still going on). Since I commute to and from work every day, there is always the slight chance that I could be at the wrong place at the wrong time and I can get infected...

Fingers crossed that that doesn't happen!

Outings / Events in January:
- Hung out with friends overall x2.

- Had a Board Game night at work. It was so much fun!

- I had a vacation day where I watched two movies I already watched in theatres last year. It was a good day! :)

- Participated in an eye-tracking study.

- The virus outbreak in China happened....

- Karaoked by myself x0.

- Stayed over at my sister's place x0.

Final Fantasy XIV: A Realm Reborn achievements / news:
-I got a little farther in Stormblood, but I'm still very behind!

Exposures:
- (Game): Sheriff of Nottingham -- This was really fun. In the first turn I lied about what I had and I worked that to my advantage many turns later.

- (Game): Throw Throw Burrito -- This was also really fun! The burritos are so cute.

- (Video Game): Divinity II -- I only tried this game out because it was published by Atlus USA. I gotta say it has promise. I liked that you could actually fail at some of the side quests. I just wish I cared more about the actual story.

Finished...
Watching:
- (Movie): Parasyte Part 1 -- Not as good as the anime, but not crazy terrible either.

- (Movie): Parasyte Part 2 -- Same comment as above.

- (Anime): Nodame Cantabile (Season 1) -- I'm not that big of a fan of classical music, but I enjoyed it all in this series. This was so funny and cute. Loved it.

- (Anime): Nodame Cantabile: Paris (Season 2) -- More of the same, so I loved that. It was nice seeing the characters grow.

Playing:
- (3DS): Rhythm Heaven Megamix -- I technically finished playing this last year, but I had already posted my December recap blog before I finished it. While I personally enjoyed the older games, I enjoyed this one as well. This game also clearly showed me that I suck at keeping a steady beat, hahaha... x(

- (Xbox 360): Fable III -- This really had some issues to it. If I have to have the game playing overnight because there were no clues about how the last portion of the game would be played out, but I really wanted to beat the game with a good alignment... it's at least a small red flag.

- (PS4): Fez -- After many hours of freely exploring and getting lost, I decided to look up a guide in order to beat the game with 100% completion. I got really tired of back-tracking between areas and didn't like that some secrets would be in a coded language, but I couldn't find any in-game hints on how to decipher the language.

- (PS4): Walking Dead: Michonne -- This was surprisingly very short. Most likely not worth getting unless it's on sale.

Reading:
- (Manga): Princess Jellyfish by Akiko Higashimura -- This was slightly mixed, but overall a good series.

- (Manga): Neo Parasyte f by various -- This had some nice stories, but a lot of bad ones, too.

- (Manga): Neo Parasyte m by various -- Same comment as above.

Currently...
Playing (not all at once):
- (PS4): Dark Cloud
- (PS4): Kingdom Hearts Final Remix (from Kingdom Hearts HD 1.5 + 2.5 Remix)

- (PS4): Danganronpa Another Episode: Ultra Despair Girls
- (PS4): Bastion
- (PS3): Borderlands 2
- (PS2): Drakengard
- (Xbox 360): Magna Carta II
- (3DS): Story of Seasons

- (Manga): One Piece by Eiichiro Oda (Volume 80 -- Chapter 800)

That's it for January. Here are some pics I took this month plus a YouTube video.

A shot of Throw Throw Burrito.
Those burrito plushies are so cute.

What I successfully shipped / smuggled in Sheriff of Nottingham.

This was my second time watching
Weathering With You!

Woot, I got Crown Prince Noctis!

A unit I had been wanting from Fate / Grand Order for a long while.

"Adaptation" by Prozzäk.
One of my favourite tracks from their last album.
I can truly relate to the first two lines.
Trying to get into the headspace of somebody who would
genuinely sing this song... I find that it's really heartbreaking.

Thanks for reading!

As usual, if you have any questions / comments about anything, feel free. :)

Take care, stay safe, and until next time!

BLOG -- Prozzäk's Never Get Over You Farewell Tour @ The Danforth Music Hall (November 30, 2019)

I had meant to blog about this last year, but I was busy focusing on finishing my New Year's Resolutions. I'm sorry for the delay. I got to attend Prozzäk's final last ever show.

Just to note: Throughout the blog (except for a few times) I will be calling Jay Levine and James McCollum as their cartoon counterparts, Simon and Milo. This is to avoid any possible confusion of who I am talking about!

A close-up of the stage.
I'm so excited! XD
Just so you know... the left head with blue hair is Simon and
the right head with blonde hair is Milo.

Me and Prozzäk
I'm pretty sure I've mentioned this in an earlier blog, but I'll say it again here.

I have been a fan of Prozzäk for many, many years... but I wasn't a fan in the beginning. Their first three popular songs, "Omobolasire", "Sucks To Be You", "Strange Disease", didn't catch me in any way. They weren't bad -- they just didn't do anything for me.

Then, one day in the year 2000 (wow... 20 years ago), I was at a Tower Records in Toronto. I was planning to buy a CD (back when buying CDs or listening to the radio were the only legit methods of accessing music).

I was thinking of buying Britney Spear's second album Oops!... I Did It Again, and I saw that the whole album was available to sample. I put on the headphones and listened to little bits of each song. The bits were decent enough. At the same sample station, Prozzäk's Hot Show was available. Despite knowing that I didn't care for at least three of the songs (the songs I mentioned above), I thought 'Why not?', and switched albums.

First track I sampled was "Europa". Immediately the guitar and lyrics drew me in. The music was upbeat while the lyrics were full of melancholy. I felt like I was off in another world, amused and delighted by the juxtaposition of cheer and sadness. I tried out a few other tracks and ended up buying the album that same day.

To me, Prozzäk's upbeat, sad music style was completely new and refreshing. I had never listened to anything quite like it before. For the songs I especially liked, the lyrics really spoke to me. I often found them relatable, or capable of pulling my heartstrings. "Anna-Lisa" and "Sleep With Myself" were my favourites.

I really enjoyed the concept of Prozzäk: that Simon and Milo existed while their human counterparts (Jay Levine and James McCollum) searched for true love. I thought it was sweet in a sad way. Sweet in that more music would be created, but sad that the continued existence of Simon and Milo meant that Jay and James had not found their true love.

When their second album Saturday People released, I bought it right away. The music style was the same, and I found some tracks I connected with right away ("www.nevergetoveryou", "Be As", and "Monday Morning"). I'd like to think that if I hadn't tried out Prozzäk's "Hot Show" on a whim at Tower Records, I would have been drawn in by "Be As". That song -- it was way too relatable for me.

About five years later, I was in a music shop with my sister. For fun, I decided to check if Prozzäk had any new CDs. To my surprise, there was! Cruel Cruel World... The album was decently priced so I bought it right then, without knowing how any of the tracks sounded. I also thought, 'Why wasn't there any advertisements or announcements on their website? Why do Simon and Milo look so sad and different? Are they okay...?'

Cruel Cruel World had the same catchy style as the other albums, but it also sounded different. There was this... bleak complexity and maturity to the songs. And of course, songs that really spoke to me. My favourites were "Just Friends", "Clothes We Wear", and "Cruel Cruel World". The lyrics for "Clothes We Wear" felt very unique and was something I thought about many times.

To this day, I still listen to Prozzäk fairly frequently. The songs I related to back in the day, I still relate to them now. Maybe... I still relate to them because I have not yet found my true love, hahaha... ^^'

The Little Details
Date of Concert: November 30, 2019
Venue: The Danforth Music Hall (Toronto, Ontario)
Time: 8:00 PM (Doors open 6:40 PM)
Ticket Price Total: $49
Seating: Section Balc1 (balcony), Row MM, Seat 13

6:40-ish PM -- Doors Open
I was glad the doors opened early -- waiting in line outside in the cold, cold November weather could have been very uncomfortable... and cold.

As usual, I promptly lined up at the merchandise table. I knew I wanted to get something to commemorate attending their final show. From what I could remember, the merch. table was selling T-shirts, long sleeve shirts, hoodies, baseball caps, and pins.

After buying a few items, I went to my seat and waited for the pre-show. This was my first time attending a venue where the entire first floor was a dance floor.

View of the stage from my seat.

8:00-ish PM -- Pre-show (Chippy Nonstop)
Well... I'll be frank. The pre-show music seemed like an electronic mashup of 80's / 90's tunes, and I'm pretty sure it did its job of getting attendees on the dance floor to dance. For me, though, I only lasted for about 15 minutes before it got on my nerves. For the first time, I thought about skipping the pre-show.

I was hoping the pre-show would last for 30 minutes, as was usually the case for pre-shows. Sadly for me, this one lasted about an hour! ;____;

I don't mean to be so mean. It just wasn't my cup of tea.

9:00-ish PM -- Intermission
Nothing happened here, aside from me going to the washroom, and then going back to my seat and playing apps on my phone.

9:30-ish PM -- Prozzäk
Woot! <3 <3 <3

The lights went down and a video clip played on the screen above the stage. It was a video showing how Simon and Milo met. Many cheered. I smiled quietly. I've seen the clip many times before, back when I watched it on a VHS copy of Simon and Milo's Hot Show (I still have the VHS! But no VCR...).

This concert was very much a wave of nostalgia. Throughout many of the tracks, I kept my quiet smile, giddy at hearing such catchy, old tunes. I cheered especially hard when "Pretty Girls", "www.nevergetoveryou", and "Be As" were performed (my favourite of all the tracks in the setlist -- the setlist is further below).

There were several moments that encouraged audience participation, which I thought was really nice and fun. "Tsunami"'s music video was presented in karaoke format, with lyrics shown on the screen. Some phrases for "Sucks To Be You" were split out between the male and female audience, with the females saying "Sucks to be you" and the males saying "I know I know". When "Be As" came on, Simon encouraged anybody who wanted to sing to sing along, even though the music video didn't show the lyrics. I sang along. :)

There was one thing that surprised me about this concert: I heard songs I had never heard of before! I thought I had heard all of Prozzäk's songs, with Cruel Cruel World being their last album. I found out after the concert that they had actually released an album after Cruel Cruel World!

Of the new tracks I heard, I especially enjoyed "All of the Feels", but I did not enjoy "If We Were in the Jungle". The music video for "If We Were in the Jungle" was so bizarre. It featured fruits in slightly sexually suggestive... imagery. A couple examples would be slowly peeling a banana, and dropping a strawberry into the center of a cantaloupe that was cut in half.

A short clip of "Love Me Tinder", a song I never heard before.
You might need to click "play" twice to play it.

"New York". I liked how Simon, Milo, and the girl (forgot her name)
were all sitting together like that.

A clip of "Sucks To Be You", the last song.

After "Sucks To Be You" ended, Simon and Milo thanked everybody for coming out and that they would be at the merch. table for a meet & greet.

The show ended around 10:35 PM.

I wanted to attend the meet & greet, but I didn't want to stay out past 11 PM... ;____;

The show is over... ;__;

Setlist
Here is the full setlist for Prozzäk. Sadly, nothing from the Cruel Cruel World album was performed. As I mentioned earlier, "Pretty Girls", "www.nevergetoveryou", and "Be As" were my favourites from this list.

-Strange Disease
-Omobolasire
-Tsunami
-Love Me Tinder
-Can't Lick This Love Thing
-Feed the Night
-Hot
-I Like To Watch (Milo's Night Out)
-All of the Feels
-New York
-If We Were in the Jungle
-Saturday People
-Love Fools Anonymous
-Pretty Girls
-www.nevergetoveryou
-Be As
-Sucks To Be You

Overall Experience
Aside from the pre-show, the concert was nice and nostalgic. I personally would have liked to hear more of the slower tunes like "Anna-Lisa", "Clothes We Wear", and "Cruel Cruel World". But I understood that they likely chose upbeat tracks to keep the audience engaged and dancing.

I was glad to finally see Simon and Milo live in a concert. They were a band that was near and dear to my childhood heart.

I have since listened to Prozzäk's latest album, Forever 1999. Many of the tracks were just okay, but "Adaptation" was amazing. That song just draws out tears like it's nobody's business!

Simon -- Milo -- Jay -- James. Thank you for delighting my ears with your music! If it hasn't happened yet, I hope you will find your true love soon! <3

Items I bought from the merchandise table.
Tour T-shirts: 2 for $50
Pins: $10
Total spent: $60
I personally like the Hot Show design more.

A close-up of the pins. I'm not all that sure what
I will do with the extra pin.

Thank you so much for reading! :)

Next week's blog might be short since it'll be Lunar New Year. Finally -- the year of the Rat!

Take care and until next time! :)

BLOG -- My Movie-Watching History (in Theatres) [2019]

Here is my movie-watching (in theatres) history for 2019. I was pleasantly surprised with how many movies I watched in theatres this year: 18! That comes out to about 1.5 movies a month. And there were still movies I missed watching, hahaha.

Now... even though I've covered these throughout the year in my end-of-month blogs, here are all the movies I've watched in theatres for 2019, with additional commentary for most, if not for all.

SPOILER ALERT WARNING!!
Since I will be mentioning a good number of movies in this blog, some of them will contain spoilers. Any movie that will contain a spoiler will be marked.

MOVIE: Spider-Man: Into the Spider-Verse [SPOILER]
DATE: January 23
RATING (OUT OF 5): *****

COMMENTS: If I had watched this in 2018, it would have been my top movie of the year! It was extremely good. It made me both happy and sad for all the Spider-Mans in all the universes. It's great that they don't have to feel alone anymore, but they have to be alone in their universe -- and they all suffer a tragic loss. *sniffle*

************************************************************************************

MOVIE: Glass [SPOILER]
DATE: February 5
RATING (OUT OF 5): **

COMMENTS: It had some redeeming qualities to it, but was a let down. The trailer misled me on the movie's focus. And that ending... how could Shyamalan decide on that kind of ending???!

************************************************************************************

MOVIE: Alita: Battle Angel
DATE: March 4
RATING (OUT OF 5): ***

COMMENTS: I think Alita's design was wonderful, and I liked how it focused on her living as a girl. I enjoyed the moments that were based on the manga / anime.

************************************************************************************

MOVIE: How to Train Your Dragon: The Hidden World
DATE: March 5
RATING (OUT OF 5): ****

COMMENTS: It was much better than the second movie.

************************************************************************************

MOVIE: The Favourite
DATE: March 6
RATING (OUT OF 5): *****

COMMENTS: This was great. Emma Stone was sooooooo gooooooooood. Everybody else was sooooooooooo goooooooooood. Some of the dialogue went by very quickly, but it was great. I'd watch it again -- just to see Emma Stone's performance.

************************************************************************************

MOVIE: Captain Marvel
DATE: March 19
RATING (OUT OF 5): ***

COMMENTS: I liked that it was mostly a prequel to the Marvel universe. Everything else was as expected for a Marvel movie. Soooooo happy to see Stan Lee's cameo in this!

************************************************************************************

MOVIE: Cruel Intentions (20th Anniversary showing)
DATE: March 22
RATING (OUT OF 5): *****

COMMENTS: I never watched it in theatres, so I just had to. There were 7 other movie-goers. I loved it, as I knew I would (it's one of my all-time favourite movies).

************************************************************************************

MOVIE: Us
DATE: April 2
RATING (OUT OF 5): ****

COMMENTS: It was very good, but very scary! I know it will be a movie I will think back to quite often.

************************************************************************************

MOVIE: High Life
DATE: April 18
RATING (OUT OF 5): **

COMMENTS: There were some nice visuals, but it was toooooooo darn slow.

************************************************************************************

MOVIE: Detective Pikachu
DATE: May 12
RATING (OUT OF 5): ***

COMMENTS: I enjoyed this. It was really cute and Ryan Reynolds was great as Pikachu. I would love to live in a world where pokemon and humans co-existed.

************************************************************************************

MOVIE: John Wick 3: Parabellum
DATE: June 2
RATING (OUT OF 5): ****

COMMENTS: This holds up super well! I was fearful that it'd be a movie with just action, but there was some story and character development as well. Better than the 2nd one, but not as good as the first.

************************************************************************************

MOVIE: Avengers: Endgame [SPOILER]
DATE: June 11
RATING (OUT OF 5): ****

COMMENTS: It was a long movie but it was necessary. Lots of things got addressed and resolved. Though... I was not 100% happy with the outcome.

************************************************************************************

MOVIE: Rocketman
DATE: June 25
RATING (OUT OF 5): ****

COMMENTS: It was a little slow at parts, but I loved the singing. Taron Egerton was amazing as Elton John.

************************************************************************************

MOVIE: White Lie [SPOILER]
DATE: September 7
RATING (OUT OF 5): ****

COMMENTS: It was great. I hated the main character so I enjoyed all the moments when she didn't get her way. Very good acting.

************************************************************************************

MOVIE: Weathering With You [SPOILER]
DATE: September 8
RATING (OUT OF 5): *****

COMMENTS: It was gutsy and great. The animation was superb -- I could feel the warmth of the sun's rays or the chill of the heavy showers. And the way it ended -- well done.

************************************************************************************

MOVIE: Parasite
DATE: October 21, October 23
RATING (OUT OF 5): *****

COMMENTS: It was crazy awesome! So many themes and messages explored, with addictive cinematography. There is something about it that draws you in and makes you want to watch more.

************************************************************************************

MOVIE: Konosuba -God's Blessing on this Wonderful World!- Legend of Crimson
DATE: November 18
RATING (OUT OF 5): ***

COMMENTS: It's about as funny as the anime series with some touching moments.

************************************************************************************

MOVIE: Knives Out
DATE: December 24
RATING (OUT OF 5): ****

COMMENTS: It was very entertaining and fun. Some of the plot twists I could not predict. Daniel Craig's accent was one of the things I could not predict, hahaha.

************************************************************************************

Movies I wanted to watch in theatres but missed:
Shadow
Spider-Man: Far From Home
Joker

Movies I wanted to watch, BUT GLAD that I missed:
Dark Phoenix
Ma

For fun, below is a video:

"Quickie: Cats" from YourMovieSucksDOTorg.
Out of all reviews I watched for Cats, I thought this was the funniest.

************************************************************************************

That's it for this blog. Thanks for reading! If you have any comments about anything (even if you greatly disagree with anything I've said, or if this made you think about the movies you've watched and want to share), feel free to comment! :)

Thank you, take care, and until next time!

BLOG (PERSONAL) -- Perspectives/Memories in 2019, Top Whatevers, Top Exposures, and New Year's Resolutions

Well, here is the long blog I do every year -- taking an overall look at the previous year.

Seaplanes in Vancouver.

Say Anything | The Office (Season 1-6) | The Great Gatsby | Dead or Alive | 1408 | Clue | Talladega Nights | You Don't Mess With the Zohan | Ruby Sparks | Hesher || + 1 more movie / TV show)

- Expose myself to at least 5 games that I digitally own -- DONE (Miitopia | Undertale | Frost | Journey | Dark Cloud || + 2 more games)

Find 200 hours and put that towards catching up on either the Mother or Shin Megami Tensei (SMT includes Persona, DDS, Devil Summoner, etc.) series -- DONE (Due to this resolution, I beat Mother [with a guide because I didn't want to deal with unnecessary back-tracking], Persona 5: Dancing in Starlight, Devil Survivor 2: Record Breaker, and Persona 1 [PSP]. I hope to continue playing SMT 1 someday... <3)

- Beat at least 10 games that I physically own. At least two should be from the Atelier series -- HALF (I was two games away from finishing this Resolution! Persona 5: Dancing in Starlight | Psycho-Pass Mandatory Happiness | Dragon Quest Heroes: The World's Tree Woe and the Blight Below | Devil Survivor 2: Record Breaker | Persona 1 [PSP] | Half-Minute Hero | Nights of Azure | Mana Khemia: Alchemists of Al-Revis)

- Beat at least 5 games that I digitally own -- DONE (Undertale | Plague Inc.: Evolved | Journey | Bloodstained: Curse of the Moon | Rhythm Heaven Megamix [I beat this with 10 minutes left to the new year])

Reduce my overall collection! This would be my collection for books, video games, music, movies, TV shows, figures -- DONE (I reduced my overall collection by 85 items. And yet... my room is still overflowing. u___u)

- Clean my room. At least half of the floor should be bare -- NOPE (In terms of floor space, it seems worse. u___________u)

To sum up: Out of my 16 resolutions, I completed 10.5. That's just over half of my resolutions. I thought I was being more lenient with myself last year by reducing some of my required hours, but I guess it wasn't enough. Working late for the first half of the year didn't exactly help either. So many of my resolutions require a lot of Time to finish.

I'm hoping this year's resolutions will be more lenient and fair... but still challenging.

Below are my resolutions for 2020:

New Year's Resolutions for 2020
Spend at least 100 hours on learning anything related to programming or game-making
- Spend at least 100 hours on learning Japanese
- Create at least two games using any of the platforms / engines I have
- Create at least 1 story (short story, play, fanfiction, whatever)
- Spend a total of 750 hours going through ANY of my media collection that I haven't experienced yet (watching DVDs / Blu-Rays, playing video games, reading books). Playing MMOs / never-ending phone games don't count
- Finish going through my Xbox360 games
- Read at least 100 chapters (or ALL) of One Piece
- Develop at least one positive habit / routine and keep at it for at least a month
- Reduce my overall collection! This would be my collection for books, video games, music, movies, TV shows, figures
- Clean my room. At least half of the floor should be bare

So this year, I've decided to lump going through my media backlog into one big resolution instead of having multiple smaller ones. I noticed last year that when I finished one of those resolutions (like reading books), I'd often prioritize doing other resolutions even if I wanted to do more reading. With it being one resolution, I'd have more freedom in how I go through my backlog and have it count.

I also think clocking hours spent than finishing a certain amount (beating x amount of games, watching x amount of movies / TV shows) is fairer since every piece of media will share the same weight. It's a bit embarrassing to say... but last year in December, I was doing my best to complete my "beat 10 games I own physically" and "beat 5 games I own digitally" resolutions and I looked up the shortest games I owned and tried playing them. I, uh... don't want to really do that again. I will still try to beat whatever games I enjoy, though, and I will still keep track of what I finished.

My resolution to read more of One Piece will require me to subscribe to some service to get access to the chapters. I think it's time, though -- time to get all caught up again! :)

This year, I have an incentive for myself. If I can finish all of my resolutions, I will treat myself to Miku! When I tried out Miku in Vancouver, I didn't realize there was a Toronto location. Even though I have less resolutions this year, they are still challenging so best of luck to me for finishing them!

2019 in Review
In some ways I was very surprised by 2019. I was expecting it to be similar to 2018 since my New Year's Resolutions were pretty much the same, but it didn't really turn out that way.

When I wasn't a shut-in working on my resolutions or working late (the latter still happened too many times unfortunately), I was out... either hanging out with friends or attending conventions, events, and concerts. I attended five conventions -- the most ever in one year! I even flew to Vancouver to attend one of them (a first for me). Is something shifting? Are my priorities changing?

In terms of where I am with Life, it's still the same, and I don't really expect it to change anytime soon. If I had more money saved up, I would consider moving out. It just doesn't seem possible at this point

My "theme song" this year: "Poison" from GTO Live-Action (1998 version). I've listened to this song many times long, long ago (I watched the live-action series and loved it), so it's not exactly new to me. Months ago, though, I started listening to it again, and I looked up English translations of the lyrics and the lyrics resonated with me very much. In my heart of hearts, I want to live how I want! :3

My karaoke attempt at "Poison" from GTO Live-Action (audio only, no video).
I was reading Romaji lyrics and I might have messed up on some of the words.
You might need to click "Play" twice for the video to start.
You might also need to turn up the volume.
This song was originally sung by a male so my voice is very low.

Notable/Significant Memories/Events in 2019
I put together a PC and it ran!: I was so happy with this that I marked it as a private Life Event on Facebook. It is my only Life Event on Facebook so far, hahahaha.

Played the most amount of pranks in the office in one year: I did one googly-eyed prank on a co-worker, a Nicolas Cage-themed prank on another co-worker, a post-it note prank as a good-bye to another co-worker (*sniffle*), and a Juicy Fruit-type prank (with my teammates) on my boss. 4 pranks. Not bad. :)

Attended the Man With a Mission concert in Toronto: This was kinda on a whim and I had a blast. It was my first time dancing in the "mosh pit" area and I was sweating like you wouldn't believe! Even though I already took a shower that day, I took one again when I got home.

Attended International Fan Festival in Toronto: This convention... changed my life. Just a little bit. ;)

Attended the Marianas Trench concert in Toronto: This is pretty much a given for me, since I love Marianas Trench so much.

Attended AniRevo Summer in Vancouver: Attending this convention just to see them again... I surprised myself!

Joined the cooking club at work: This was a good club. It exposed me to more cooking methods and introduced me to working with various ingredients. I rarely cook anything at home unless it's chocolate (which will be coming up soon-ish!).

Attended the Hugh Jackman show in Toronto: I'm just happy I got to see Hugh Jackman in the flesh! x3

Spending time with my friends: This is always going to be mentioned here. I wish I could have more time to spend with them.

Got a really short haircut: The chances of me ever getting such a short haircut again will be low.

Attended Prozzak's farewell tour in Toronto: One of my childhood favourites. I'm glad I finally got to see them in concert.

Participated in the Board Game nights at work: These were always fun nights. I tend to be really shy with group activities, so I was glad I attended. I got exposed to so many new games.

Top Whatevers in 2019
This is my top list of what was released in 2019 that I experienced.

(Movie): Parasite
I have never watched any other movie with such... addictive cinematography. It's not perfect, but very close, and it left such a strong impression on me.

(Anime Movie): Weathering With You
I can see this movie being pretty divisive among viewers, but I fell in the "loved it" crowd. Maybe I'll blog about it sometime.

(Anime): Attack on Titan: Season 3 - Part 2
I think this was the only anime series I watched that was released this year, and it was great.

(Song - English): I've Been Waiting by Lil Peep and iLoveMakonnen feat. Fall Out Boy
I got exposed to this song in the most random way. I was listening to a friend's tracklist on Soundcloud. When the list ended, it autoplayed to a song my friend liked, and it was "I've Been Waiting". I loved it immediately -- so much that I re-listened to it multiple times in that same sitting, bought the song off iTunes that same night, and sung it the next time I went karaoking. I love the lyrics and the "raw-ness" of the vocals!

So far, this is the only song I've ever karaoked and retained the swear word in the lyrics.

"I've Been Waiting" from Lil Peep and iLoveMakonnen feat. Fall Out Boy.
I think I mentioned this before but my favourite lyrics are:
"I've been dreaming -- of your uniform -- your uniform of non-conformity".

Top Exposures in 2019
This is my top list of what I was exposed to this year, regardless of what year it really came out in. Any titles with two years indicate the original release date, then the English release date. If I list here the same thing from my "Top Whatevers", I will also mention a runner-up.

(Anime): Tie between Parasyte -the Maxim- (2014/2015), Puella Magi Madoka Magica (2011/2012), and Psycho-Pass Season 1 (2012)
This is the first 3-way tie for top exposures. I just couldn't choose between them! For me, they were all so strong in their own ways. Music, animation style, plot, characterization, invoking strong emotions / ideas -- they all aced those categories.

Of the three, I plan to review Parasyte -the Maxim- sometime as I've been connected to that series since Middle School.

(Movie): Parasite
Runner up would be Spider-Man: Into the Spider-verse (2018). This would have been my top movie of 2018... if I had watched it in 2018! Spider-Man: Into the Spider-verse was truly a fun, colourful, uniquely animated movie with a nice mix of funny and emotional moments. This is one of the stronger Spider-Man movies out there.

(Video Game): Undertale [PS4] (2015)
What can I say about this game that hasn't already been said? Undertale is a game that strikes my core, and for that, I love it. I'll love it to the ends of the earth! <3

Here's my review of the game.

(Song - English): Undertale from Undertale (2015)
This was kinda a given, since I loved Undertale so much. I won't link to any videos since I'd recommend listening to it for the first time in-game, but trust me -- it's a great, emotional track! :)

(Song - Japanese): Infinity from Persona 5: The Animation (2018)
It was really difficult picking out a song this year -- I was exposed to so much! In the end I settled with this song that grew on me close to the end of the year.

"Infinity" from Persona 5: The Animation.
I love the lyrics!

(Musicians): Akai Ryusei (Active NEETs) and TAM (TAMUSIC)
These two... I've said it before but I'll say it again: I am so glad I decided on a whim to attend their liveshow at IFFT all those months ago. Their passion, and love for playing -- I felt it in their music. I was lucky to meet them at two conventions in 2019, and I hope I'll be able to meet them again in the future! :)

-----------------------------------

And that's that for my review of 2019.

In my last entry, I noted a few things I wanted to do in 2019:

-Sleep more (Considering that I changed my wake up time to 5:30 AM on weekdays... I'd say this didn't happen)
-Create more (This didn't happen either... x()
-Have more space in my room (No dice on this either T______T)

For 2020, below are some things I'd like to do:

-Start playing the Yakuza video game series
-Start playing the Nier video game series
-Exercise more
-Have less stuff in my room

If you've made it this far, thanks for reading! Below is a % breakdown of my spending in 2019 compared to 2017 and 2018. This breakdown excludes necessities like my cell phone plan, transportation expenses, etc. Click on the image to enlarge it.

I'm a bit surprised that "Gift Items" was so high. The spike in "Event Tickets" was expected, though. Looking at my spending in "Misc", it was a mix of plushies, shipping costs for online orders, Movember donation, and other things. The cost for my computer parts weren't noted in any one category, but was treated as a lump sum that I paid off in parts over the year.

Thanks again for reading! I hope 2020 treats you well. It's a leap year which means... there will be an extra day to work on resolutions! Hehehehe :)

Take care, stay safe, and until next time! :)
