BLOG (PERSONAL) -- Perspectives/Memories in 2025, Top Whatevers, Top Exposures, and New Year's Resolutions

Here is the long blog I do every year -- taking an overall look at the previous year.

The building of a fun museum in Japan.

First thing is a review of my New Year's Resolutions in 2025 and how I did with them:

(REVIEW) New Year's Resolutions for 2025
Using my Crunchyroll subscription, watch at least 100 episodes' worth of anime / dramas (movies would count as 1 episode per 30 minutes of runtime) -- DONE (I watched about 194 episodes' worth, which break down as below [also just to say that I watched the complete series for only some that are mentioned]:)

-Attack on Titan
-Code Geass: Rebellion of Lelouch
-Naruto
-Umamusume: Pretty Derby

Spend at least 100 hours watching Netflix (for things I haven't yet watched) -- DONE (I spent about 122 hours, which I think is kinda nuts considering that Netflix expired around the end of March. Below is how it breaks down:)

Movies: 27 (that comes to about 9 movies per month)
Shows (1 season counts as 1): 11
Anime (1 season counts as 1): 2
Documentaries: 1
K-Dramas: 3
J-Dramas: 0
Extras (any behind the scenes / extra footage): 0

Of all that I watched on Netflix, my boyfriend watched 2 movies, 4 TV shows, and 2 K-dramas with me.

For my media collection, I was good with noting what games I finished playing but I forgot to note some of the new games I tried. It's probably not possible to keep track of my time spent anymore since I keep forgetting to do it.

Despite being much busier, I think I completed more games this year compared to last year. I didn't read anything this year, so maybe that's why I was able to complete more games ^.^;

Below is how I did with my media collection. For the video games, * means that I played it with my boyfriend.

-Nothing this year

Below are my resolutions for 2026:

New Year's Resolutions for 2026
- Using my Crunchyroll subscription, watch at least 100 episodes' worth of anime / dramas (movies would count as 1 episode per 30 minutes of runtime)

- Watch at least 1 movie per week

The Crunchyroll resolution is just to make sure I'm not wasting the subscription. The "Watch at least 1 movie a week" is something I'd like to see if it's do-able. I still love movies and I'd like to still be able to make time for it. This doesn't mean that I have to subscribe to streaming platforms to accomplish it. I can borrow movies from the library or re-watch ones that are already in my collection.

2025 in Review
2025 was a busy year for the first half. I was doing freelance work and spending time with my boyfriend. I also ended up moving out of the home for the first time, which brought on a lot more freedom and flexibility but also more responsibilities.

Then my mother passed away and the year kinda felt like it stopped. My relationship with my mother wasn't that great -- there were a lot of things we didn't see eye-to-eye. But I think there was some comfort in knowing that she was there. I also wanted to show her that I could be okay living away from home, so she wouldn't have to keep worrying. She always worried way too much...

One major highlight that happened after my mother's passing was visiting Japan. It was a nice getaway and I think the timing was good since we avoided many of the changes that are currently happening or will happen in Japan soon (the hotel accommodation tax increase, for example).

Notable/Significant Memories/Events in 2025
Attending two weddings: These were fun and touching times.

Getting a temporary job helping my friend's relative's trophy shop: It's hard work but also fun and interesting. Some misunderstandings happened close to the end though and it didn't get resolved, which was unfortunate

Moving out for the first time: It is great to set my own schedule but there are so many new responsibilities.

My mother passing away: May she rest in peace.

Visiting Japan: It's always nice and fun to visit.

Attending Anime Revolution Toronto (Anirevo): This was an enjoyable time.

Hanging out with friends: I will always appreciate this.

Having the LINE voice chats with friends: Having these chats are always nice. <3

Wrap-ups, Replays, etc. in 2025
Sometimes I look forward to these 'cuz I'm curious about my stats. Some of these links will likely not be accessible after a certain time so check them out while you can if you like. I personally think my Spotify playlist for 2025 is a bit of a joke since I didn't listen to much music on Spotify in 2025.

Spotify (my playlist): Link
Steam: Link

Summary of my Steam Replay.

Once I started playing Umamusume on Steam, I played it on Steam everyday that I could.

360 hours is such a difference from 1183 hours last year.

My Top 5 games for the Playstation Wrap-up. Balatro was pretty addictive.

This perfectly explains why I think my Spotify playlist for 2025 is a bit of a joke. I only listened to 1 day's worth of music on Spotify!!!

My top Twitch streamers. I don't think I tuned in for any other streamers.

Some more info from the Twitch Recap. When Stephen played Tunic I watched as many sessions as possible. It's such a fun game.

Top Whatevers in 2025
This is my top list of what was released in 2025 that I experienced. It's really short this year since I experienced a lot of older things.

I watched Demon Slayer: Movie - Infinity Castle Part 1, but I'm not going to list it as my top anime movie. It was definitely pretty good, but I wanted more!! :x

(Movie): Rental Family
I enjoyed the exploration of the subject matter and the variety of emotions. It was also great seeing Brendan Fraser speak Japanese.

Top Exposures in 2025
This is my top list of what I was exposed to this year, regardless of what year it really came out in. Any titles with two years indicate the original release date, then the English release date. If I list here the same thing from my "Top Whatevers", I will also mention a runner-up.

(Anime): Code Geass: Rebellion of the Lelouch (2006-2008/2008-2009)
I liked that I could not predict many of the twists. I wish the world was a little kinder but I also respect that consequences are realized and lived through.

(Movie): Tie between Mank (2020) and The Trial of the Chicago 7 (2020)
When I think of Mank, I'm drawn to the witty script and amazing acting. When I think of The Trial of the Chicago 7, I'm hyped by the highly charged music, great acting, and great writing.  Both movies were a delight to watch and movies I won't be forgetting anytime soon
.

(Video Game): Tie between Bugsnax [PS5] (2020) and Umamusume [Mobile/Steam] (2021/2025)
I've been playing Umamusume everyday for months now so of course it'll be listed. I enjoy the rogue-like aspects of the game as well as the music and general lightness and positivity. As for Bugsnax, I was surprised by the depth of the character development when I realized it was more than some fluffy bug-catching game. I enjoyed interacting with each character and seeing what issues they were dealing with. I also enjoyed the ending for Bugsnax very much.

(Show): Castlevania (2017-2021)
I enjoyed the characters and the story very much. Aside from one episode that had a lot of nudity (and things), every episode was entertaining and witty. My favourite character was Alucard, with Sypha and Trevor being a close second. Isaac was also very interesting -- his character development was fun to see.

(Song - English): Heart Attack by Demi Lovato
 (2013)
I enjoy the lyrics and the high energy. When I listen to this song, I think back to the AMV I watched at Anirevo. I wish I could see the AMV again... ;_;

"Heart Attack" by Demi Lovato.

(Song - Non-English): Make debut! from Umamusume (2021)
I love the energy. It's perfect for an uplifting and intense series like Umamusume.

"Make debut!" from Umamusume.

-----------------------------------

And that's that for my review of 2025.

In my last entry, I noted a few things I wanted to do in 2025:

-Save more money (I hit the target I set for myself last year)
-Finish up playing the main Yakuza games
(I'm still on 6, so nope)
-Play around with streaming (After moving out, things got busier so this didn't happen)

For 2026, below are some things I'd like to do:

-Finish Yakuza 6 and Judgement (I think I'm a bit too behind to realistically get all caught up on the whole Yakuza series, but I still want to get closer)
-Play around with streaming (I do want to try this this year. I still wouldn't want to show my face, and it would still be about going through my backlog. Fingers crossed that I won't slack off)

If you've made it this far, thanks for reading! Below is a % breakdown of my Top 10 spending in 2025 compared to 2024 and 2023. This breakdown excludes necessities like my cell phone plan, rent, etc. Click on the image to enlarge it.

I'm not surprised by the increase in food -- non-chips since I moved out with my boyfriend. Eating out has gone slightly down, which is a relief since I think I spent too much on eating out last year. A lot of the miscellaneous spending was on household items like welcome mats, shoe racks, curtains, etc. For my 2026 budget, I included a household category so we'll see if that'll lower the spending in the miscellaneous category.

Thanks again for reading! May 2026 be a year that will bring you joy, beauty, great health, and lovely memories! *hug*

Take care, stay safe, and until next time! :)
